Our dance classes

Ballet
Studio 23 teaches the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) ballet syllabus. These ballet classes develop your technique and deportment; give you strength and flexibility, and, of course, beautiful, graceful movement. Ballet can be learnt purely for these purposes but students can also choose to take part in an exam at the end of the year.
Class grades Ballet classes are graded by age and ability. Age requirements do apply for all students preparing for the exam and the outline below shows the minimum age for students of that grade.
Not all students will be prepared for the exam by the minimum age so it is fine for students to be older than the minimum age for their grade. In fact, this is often preferred, especially for those new to ballet.
Pre-Primary 5 years and over
Primary 6 years and over
Grade 1 7 years and over
Grades 2 - 5 8 years and over
Grades 6 - 8 and Intermediate foundation11 years and over
Tap
We are teaching an innovative new tap dance syllabus designed by Glenn Wood. His new, fun approach to tap dancing not only has everyone enjoying classes but also achieves outstanding results, producing strong and stylish tapping. Students can choose to do an exam at the end of the year or simply enjoy fun weekly tap classes.
Class grades
Tap levels do not have any age requirements but follow a similar structure to the way ballet is graded.
Contemporary
Contemporary choreography is often considered to be different and experimental. It has a very broad and creative vocabulary and contains movements that are both static and dynamic, lyrical and athletic, and that invert, twist, expand and contract. The boundaries of contemporary dance are limitless! We have contemporary dance classes for a wide range of ages.
Jazz
Jazz is the most diverse form of dance, ranging from old musical styles of jazz through to the modern styles you see on the latest Top 40 video clips! Flexibility, strength and coordination are all benefits you gain from jazz. But most of all, jazz is simply great fun!
Class grades
Jazz classes are grouped by age. The levels are as follows:
Pre-Primary 5 and 6 years
Primary 6 and 7 years
Pre-Junior 7 and 8 years
Junior 9 and 10 years
Pre-intermediate 11 and 12 years

Acro
A combination of tumbling and gymnastics. Learn skills such as handstands, cartwheels, walkovers and more! NB Students will need to be graded for this class. Ages 6 and up.
Barre Attack
A fun, low impact, high intensity workout combining ballet, pilates and cardio.
Wiggle and Giggle
Designed for children aged two to three years, this preschool dance class introduces your little ones to dance and music in a fun and exciting environment. We use our favourite Wiggles, Hi-5 and Rainbow Fairy songs to get wiggling and, of course, giggling! Creative movement, dance games and props are all part of this class. So come and join the Fun Fairy running with your wand, shaking your pom-poms and balancing a beanbag on your head.
Funky 4s
Designed or four-year-olds, Funky 4s is a class that incorporates jazz, classical ballet and tap and uses a variety of methods to introduce preschool children to different styles of dance and music. Many props are used (beanbags, wands and scarves) and lots of fun music, while basic dance skills are introduced. Funky 4s helps develop coordination, rhythm skills, social skills and musicality.
